Mennin, Peter

Mennin, Peter (b. Mennini)

(1923–83) composer; born in Erie, Pa. After studies at Oberlin and Eastman, he was director of Baltimore's Peabody Conservatory of Music (1958–62), then served as president of Juilliard from 1962 until his death. He is best known for his nine symphonies in a mildly modernistic idiom.
