Merriam, Mansfield (1848–1925) educator, writer, civil engineer; born in Southington, Conn. He taught civil engineering, first at Yale (1877–78), then at Lehigh University until 1907. During this period he was often a consulting engineer on hydraulic and bridge problems. He wrote and edited numerous books and articles on engineering.
