Merrill, Frank (Dow) (1903–55) soldier; born in Hopkinton, Mass. He served as an intelligence officer early in World War II before being assigned to raise the volunteer unit known as "Merrill's Marauders," which fought in the Burma jungle behind the Japanese lines (1943–44).
