(naval architecture) The vertical distance between a ship's center of gravity and its metacenter, for transverse or longitudinal inclinations, as specified. Metacentric Height the height of the metacenter above the center of gravity of a floating body. The metacentric height serves as a measure of the stability of a vessel.
