A meteoric water origin is stated for the Maiskoye gold deposit based on hydrogen and oxygen isotope compositions of bulk extractions of fluid inclusion waters, but is such an interpretation valid?
The oxygen isotopic values of paleosol siderite nodules have been analyzed from 35[degrees]N to 75[degrees]N paleolatitude in the KWIB, and they are a proxy record for mid-Cretaceous meteoric water isotopic values.
Distributions correlate with automotive usage of lead, transport to the lakes may however include lead particles released by air, and/or those deposited in the soil, and subsequently washed into the basin by meteoric water.
