Methemoglobin (Mthb)
ferrihemoglobin, a form of hemoglobin in which the iron of the heme is trivalent. Methemoglobin is not capable of carrying oxygen. The compound forms readily from free hemoglobin under the influence of various oxidizing agents and in the body as a result of certain intoxications (methemoglobinemia).
