Meton
Born circa 460 B.C.; date of death unknown. Ancient Greek astronomer and mathematician. In 433 B.C., Meton proposed what is called the Metonic cycle, which became the basis of the ancient Greek calendar. He also constructed gnomons in the town square in Athens for observing solstices and constructed adjustable calendars cut from stone. Want to thank TFD for its existence?
