Meyer, Adolph (1866–1950) psychiatrist; born near Zürich, Switzerland. He emigrated to the United States in 1892. As professor, and later director, he turned the Phipps Psychiatric Clinic at Johns Hopkins into the premier psychiatric training center in the country (1910–41). One of the most important early psychiatrists in America, he developed new treatment methods, including the interview. He was an influential proponent of a holistic psychobiology.
