Meyer-Lübke, Wilhelm
Born Jan. 30, 1861, in Diibendorf, Switzerland; died Oct. 4, 1936, in Bonn. Austrian linguist; professor at the universities of Jena (from 1887), Vienna (from 1890), and Bonn (from 1915). Meyer-Lubke belonged to the school of neogrammarians and studied the Romance languages. He wrote a comparative grammar and etymological dictionary of the Romance languages. In the last years of his life he did research on Albanian and Rumanian. A special institute, headed by Meyer-Liibke, was established at the University of Vienna for the study of Rumanian.
