Mezentsev, Boris Sergeevich
Born July 13 (26), 1911, in Tula; died Nov. 18, 1970, in Moscow. Soviet architect; Honored Architect of the RSFSR (1969). Member of the CPSU from 1940. Mezentsev graduated from the Moscow Architectural Institute in 1935 and taught there from that year, becoming a professor in 1969. His work includes the railroad stations in Kharkov, Smolensk, Borodino, and Gorki Leninskie (all 1946-51); a tall building on Lermontov Square (1949-53; State Prize of the USSR, 1949); a tall building for design organizations on Vernadskii Prospect (1963-73) in Moscow; the building of the Council of Ministers of the Uzbek SSR in Tashkent (1965-67); and the Lenin Memorial in Ul’ianovsk (1967–70; Lenin Prize, 1972). He created a number of town-planning projects, including several residential areas in southwestern Moscow (1954-61). He was awarded two orders and various medals.
