In our studies we have identified specific microsatellite repeats that are sensitive to ROS exposure in human and mouse cells. However, among eukaryote species, microsatellite repeats are more abundant and longer in vertebrates than invertebrates (Chambers and MacAvoy 2000). If the prototypical cohanim Y chromosome arose fairly recently, then the number of microsatellite repeats should be relatively similar among all the cohanim. |
