Zune
(redirected from Microsoft argo)

Also found in: Wikipedia 0.07 sec.

Microsoft's first digital music player and service. Introduced in the fall of 2006, the Zune brand refers to the entire system, including portable player, software and music store. The player is manufactured by Toshiba, which makes its own line of players under the Gigabeat brand.

Multimedia Formats
Audio formats supported are MP3, WMA and unprotected AAC audio, but not protected AAC tunes from Apple. The Zune also handles H.264, MPEG-4 and WMV video as well as JPEG images.

Zune Vs. iPod
Introduced more than five years after the iPod, the Zune was designed to compete head on with Apple's winning product. The Zune's main control resembles the iPod wheel, but is actually a cover for buttons and not a wheel interface. The Zune includes Wi-Fi wireless connectivity and FM radio, which are available only as third-party options on the iPod. The player is a little heavier and larger than the iPod, and battery life is less due to its larger screen, which has 50% more viewing area than any iPod thus far (3" diagonal vs. 2.5").
