A system of ground equipment which generates guidance beams at microwave frequencies for guiding aircraft to landings; it is intended to replace the present lower-frequency instrument landing system. Abbreviated MLS.

eu Apr 30, 2009 Thales Thales announced that its microwave landing system received UK approval for ground installations for Cat IIIb operations at London Heathrow.
The aircraft will be compatible with the Opats electro-optical landing system although, should a customer require, Ruag has the capability to adapt it for microwave landing systems.
They set up a mobile microwave landing system, just smaller than a pallet, to identify potential obstacles and create a "blueprint" of the area.
