Migne, Jacques Paul

Also found in: Hutchinson 0.01 sec.
Migne, Jacques Paul (zhäk pôl mē`nyə), 1800–1875, French publisher of theological works, a Roman Catholic priest (ordained 1824). He set up a printing press in Paris and printed many religious and theological works. His principal publication was called Patrologia, an ambitious project the aim of which was to publish the writings of all Christian writers into the Middle Ages. The texts reproduced in the Patrologia series are being replaced only gradually with better editions. There were three series: Latin Fathers to Innocent III (217 vol. and an index in 4 vol.); Greek Fathers (to 1438) in Latin translation (81 vol.); and Greek Fathers in Greek and Latin (166 vol.).
