VÁCI, MIHÁLY. Born Dec. 25, 1924, in the city of Nyiregyhaza; died May 16, 1970, in Hanoi. Hungarian poet. Váci worked as a village schoolteacher until 1950. From 1961 he was a member of the editorial board of the journal Uj Irás. Váci’s lyrics (the collections Cornice, 1955; Everywhere Is Home, 1961; The Power of Poor People, 1964; Acacia in the Wind, 1966), which castigate Philistinism, bureaucracy, and timeserving, are dominated by the spirit of moral exactingness toward oneself and the enthusiasm of socialist collectivism.
