Useinov, Mikael’ Aleskerovich
Born Apr. 6 (19), 1905, in Baku. Soviet architect and architectural historian. People’s Architect of the USSR (1970); member of the Academy of Sciences of the Azerbaijan SSR (1945). Useinov studied at the Azerbaijan Polytechnic Institute from 1922 to 1929 and taught there from 1930 to 1970, becoming a professor in 1942. He has been chairman of the administrative board of the Architects’ Union of the Azerbaijan SSR since 1947 and director of the Institute of Architecture and Art of the Academy of Sciences of the Azerbaijan SSR since 1948. Useinov worked with S. A. Dadashev until 1946. Works built by Useinov after 1946 include the M. F. Akhundov Public Library of the Azerbaijan SSR (1960), the complex of the Academy of Sciences of the Azerbaijan SSR (1960’s), and the N. Narimanov subway station (1967), all in Baku. Useinov was awarded the State Prize of the USSR in 1941. He was a deputy to the fourth and fifth convocations of the Supreme Soviet of the USSR.
