Mikhail Aleksandrovich Gavrilov

Gavrilov, Mikhail Aleksandrovich 

Born Nov. 11 (24), 1903, in Moscow. Soviet scholar in the field of the theory of automatic control. Corresponding member of the Academy of Sciences of the USSR (1964).

Gavrilov graduated from the Moscow Higher Technical School in 1925. Since 1937 he has been working in the Institute of Automation and Telemechanics. He has been president of the scientific council on technical cybernetics of the Academy of Sciences of the USSR since 1965. His main scholarly works are on telemechanics (he invented the first telecontrol device in the USSR), the theory of relay devices and finite automatons (the theory of block synthesis, the theory of structural reliability, and the theory of the minimizing of structures). He received the P. N. Iablochkov Prize of the Academy of Sciences of the USSR in 1958 and has been awarded the Order of the Red Banner of Labor and medals.
