Ivanov-Boretskii, Mikhail Vladimirovich
Born June 4 (16), 1874, in Moscow; died there Apr. 1, 1936. Soviet musicologist and composer. Ivanov-Boretskii studied composition theory with N.S. Kle-novskii and N.A. Rimsky-Korsakov and the history of music with A. Falconi (Florence). After 1917 he worked in social organizations and scholarly institutes and gave lectures. He became a professor at the Moscow Conservatory in 1922. He was one of the founders of the Soviet school of foreign music history and an outstanding specialist in the history of the music of the Renaissance and the 17th and 18th centuries. His many works include Music History Reader (issues 1–3, 1929; 2nd rev. ed. , vols. 1–2, 1933–36) and Materials and Documents in Music History (vol. 2, 1934). REFERENCESIvanov-Boretskii, D. , and M.
