Mikheev, Mikhail Aleksandrovich 

Born May 25 (June 7), 1902, in the village of Khobotovo, present-day Michurinsk Raion, Tambov Oblast; died July 6, 1970, in Moscow. Soviet scientist in heat engineering. Academician of the Academy of Sciences of the USSR (1953; corresponding member, 1946).

Mikheev graduated from the Leningrad Polytechnic Institute in 1927. From 1925 to 1934 he worked at the Physicotechnical Institute and other research institutes in Leningrad. In 1933 he began working at the G. M. Krzhizhanovskii Power Institute of the Academy of Sciences of the USSR, and from 1935 to 1944 he was also a professor at the Moscow Power Engineering Institute.

Mikheev’s major work was on heat transfer and thermal simulation. He conducted a number of studies on the physical features of heat-transfer processes in free and forced convection of various heat carriers. Together with M. V. Kirpichev, he wrote the monograph The Simulation of Thermal Devices (1936; State Prize of the USSR, 1941) and the textbook Fundamentals of Heat Transfer (1947; State Prize of the USSR, 1951). Mikheev was awarded the Order of Lenin, three other orders, and various medals.
