Nagnibeda, Mikola L’vovich 

(Nikolai L’vovich Nagnibeda). Born Sept. 7 (20), 1911, in the village of Popovka, present-day Smirnovo, Kuibyshevo Raion, Zaporozh’e Oblast. Soviet Ukrainian poet. Honored Cultural Worker of the Byelorussian SSR (1973). Member of the CPSU since 1940.

The son of a village feldsher, Nagnibeda graduated from the M. Gorky Kiev Pedagogical Institute in 1946. His first works were published in 1930. Nagnibeda is the author of many collections of lyrical verse, ballads, and narrative poems. His collection Poems (1951) received the State Prize of the USSR in 1952 and the cycle of poems Features of a Dear Face was awarded the T. G. Shevchenko State Prize of the Ukrainian SSR in 1970. Nagnibeda’s somewhat romantic poetry is devoted to the people’s military and labor heroism and to the struggle for peace. His works have been translated into many languages of the USSR and socialist countries. He has been awarded the Order of Lenin, the Order of the Red Banner of Labor, and various medals.
