Milashkina, Tamara Andreevna 

Born Sept. 13, 1934, in Astrakhan. Soviet Russian lyric and dramatic soprano. People’s Artist of the USSR (1973).

In 1959, Milashkina graduated from the Moscow Conservatory, where she had studied in the class of E. K. Katul’skaia. Since 1958 she has been a soloist with the Bolshoi Theater of the USSR. In 1961–62 she appeared as a guest artist with La Scala in Milan. Her roles include Katharina in Shebalin’s The Taming of the Shrew, Liubka in Prokofiev’s Semen Kotko, Fevronia in Rimsky-Korsakov’s The Legend of the Invisible City of Kitezh and the Maiden Fevronia, Leonora and Aïda in Verdi’s Il Trovatore and Aïda, and Tosca in Puccini’s opera of the same name. The film The Enchantress From the City of Kitezh (Mosfilm Studios, 1966) is devoted to Milashkina. She has performed in Italy, the United States, Austria, Denmark, Norway, Canada, Finland, France, and other countries.
