Milledge, John (mĭl`ĭj), 1757–1818, American political leader, b. Savannah, Ga. In the American Revolution he was a prominent figure in the group that seized (1775) the colonial government at Savannah. A lawyer, he was a U.S. Representative (1792–93, 1795–99, 1801–2), governor of Georgia (1802–6), and a Senator (1806–9). The Univ. of Georgia campus is situated on land that he donated, and the city of Milledgeville was named in his honor. How to thank TFD for its existence?
