Miller, Samuel Freeman

Miller, Samuel Freeman (1816–90) Supreme Court justice; born in Richmond, Ky. Initially a medical doctor, he read law and was admitted to Kentucky's bar in 1847. He was an early organizer of the Republican Party and was named to the U.S. Supreme Court by President Abraham Lincoln (1862–90).
