Mills, Enos Abijah (1870–1922) naturalist, author; born near Kansas City, Kans. A frail child, he went to Colorado for his health at age 14, fell under the spell of the mountains, and settled in a homesteader's cabin at the foot of Long's Peak. A chance meeting with John Muir turned him to the systematic study of natural history. He became a writer, lecturer, mountain guide, and, from 1901, innkeeper—his Long's Peak Inn became a haven for nature lovers. His lobbying efforts led to the establishment of the Rocky Mountain National Park in 1915. How to thank TFD for its existence?
