Milnor, John W. (Willard) (1931– ) mathematician; born in Orange, N.J. A noted teacher, he was at the Institute for Advanced Study, Princeton, beginning in 1970. Recipient of the National Medal of Science (1967) and member of the National Academy of Science, his specialties were the topology of manifolds and dynamical systems.
