Mimica, Vatroslav
Born June 25, 1923, in Split. Yugoslav film director. Mimica studied medicine in Zagreb. In the 1940’s he took part in the struggle for national liberation. After World War II he worked as a literary critic and editor of a youth magazine. In 1952, Mimica made his debut as a director with the feature film During the Storm; he later worked on animated cartoons. His most important films are The Bachelor (1958), At the Photographer’s (1959), The Inspector Returned Home (1959), and A Small Chronicle (1963). In 1964, Mimica returned to directing feature films, including A Prometheus From Visevice Island (1965), Monday or Tuesday (1966), An Incident (1969), The Parasite (1970), and The Macedonian Part of Hell (1972). In many of these films, Mimica seeks to reveal the psychology and inner world of man. A number of his films have been awarded prizes at international film festivals.
