In east-central SD, northwest of Sioux Falls; created Jan 8, 1873 (prior to statehood) from Hanson County. Name Origin: For Capt. Nelson Miner (1827-79) and Ephraim Miner (1833-?), members of the Dakota Territory legislature when the county was formed
