Mining Institute 

(full name, A. A. Skochinskii Mining Institute, IGD), an institute that deals with problems relating to the mining sciences and technical developments in the coal industry. The institute is under the authority of the Ministry of the Coal Industry of the USSR. It was organized within the system of the Academy of Sciences of the USSR in 1938 and was amalgamated with the All-Union Scientific Research Coal Institute in 1959. The institute is in the city of Liubertsy in Moscow Oblast. Basic research programs of the institute are underground coal-extraction technology, complex mechanization and automation of mining production, rock crushing methods, mine aerology, mining mechanics, and open-pit mining. The institute maintains an experimental plant, a design office, and a postgraduate research program. It has published the journal of scientific papers Trudy since 1954.
