Minorskii, Vladimir Fedorovich
Born Jan. 24 (Feb. 5), 1877, in Korchev-na-Volge; died Mar. 25, 1966, in Cambridge. Russian Orientalist. Minorskii graduated from the faculty of law of Moscow University in 1900 and from the Lazarev Institute of Oriental Languages in 1903. Beginning in 1903 he served in the Russian Ministry of Foreign Affairs, mainly on diplomatic missions in Iran and Turkey. He did not return to Russia after the October Revolution of 1917. Minorskii lived in Iran from 1917 to 1919, in France from 1919 to 1932, and in Great Britain after 1932. He became a professor at the University of London in 1937. His major works are on the history and culture of Iran, Transcaucasia, and Turkey; the history of Islam; ethnography; and the history of Oriental studies. REFERENCEKuznetsova, N.
