Minton, Sherman (1890–1965) Supreme Court justice; born near Georgetown, Ind. As a U.S. senator (Dem., Ind.; 1935), he promoted New Deal legislation and rose to assistant majority whip. He became a judge on the U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals (1941–49) until President Harry Truman named him to the Supreme Court (1949–56). How to thank TFD for its existence?
