a city in Egypt; situated in the Nile valley, on the left bank of the Nile River. Capital of the muhafazah (governorate) of Minya. Population, 122,000 (1970). Al-Minya is a commercial and transportation center. It has wool, cotton-ginning, leather, and sugar industries.
