Mirzapur (mēr`zäp
r'), joint municipality with Vindhyachal (total 1991 pop. 169,336), Uttar Pradesh state, N central India. It is a district administrative center and has major road and rail connections. Carpets and brassware are manufactured. Many Hindu pilgrims visit the shrine of the goddess Vindhyeshwari.Mirzapur (also Mirzapur-Bindhachal), a city located in India, in the state of Uttar Pradesh on the Ganges River. Population, 105,900 (1971). The city is well known as a carpet weaving center. Mirzapur’s other industries include cement production, metal working, and timber cutting.
