Mislavskii, Nikolai Aleksandrovich
Born Apr. 17 (29), 1854, in the village of Turinskie Rudniki, in presentday Sverdlovsk Oblast; died Dec. 28, 1928, in Kazan. Soviet physiologist. Corresponding member of the Academy of Sciences of the USSR (1927); Honored Scientist of the RSFSR (1926). A student of N. O. Kovalevskii, Mislavskii graduated from the University of Kazan in 1876. He was made a professor there in 1891. His principal works were on the location of the respiratory center in the mammalian brain, the influence of the cerebral cortex on the internal organs, and the innervation of smooth muscles and a number of glands, including endocrine glands.
