Khandrikov, Mitrofan Fedorovich 

Born Jan. 1 (13), 1837, in Moscow; died July 25 (Aug. 7), 1915. Russian astronomer and geodesist.

Khandrikov graduated from Moscow University in 1858. In 1862 he became an observational astronomer at the Moscow Observatory. Beginning in 1870, he was a professor at the University of Kiev and director of the Kiev Observatory. Under his supervision, a meridian circle was installed at the observatory and meridional observations were organized. Most of his works were devoted to theoretical and observational astronomy, particularly to the theory of determining the orbits of planets and comets and to the theory of predicting eclipses. Khandrikov was also the author of textbooks on astronomy and geodesy.
