Miturich, Petr Vasil’evich
Born Oct. 2 (14), 1887, in St. Petersburg; died Oct. 27, 1956, in Moscow. Soviet graphic artist. Miturich studied with N. S. Samokish at the Academy of Arts in St. Petersburg from 1909 to 1915. He joined the World of Art group in 1915 and was a member of the Four Arts association from 1925 to 1929. He taught at the Moscow VkhutemasVkhutein (State Higher Arts and Technical Studios-Higher Art and Technical Institute) from 1923 to 1930. Miturich’s numerous pencil, india ink, and charcoal drawings are characterized by well-planned, rhythmic composition and concise forms, as well as by expressive strokes or long, undulating lines. Examples of his drawings are several portraits of artists and poets (from 1922) and cycles of landscapes depicting Santalovo (1922), Khvalynsk (1926–29), Kislovodsk (1933), Sudak (1937, 1939), and Khosta (1955). Miturich also painted (portrait of the composer A. S. Lur’e, 1915, Russian Museum, Leningrad), illustrated books, and made lithographs. REFERENCESP. V.
