Miyako

Miyako (mēyä`kō), city (1990 pop. 58,505), Iwate prefecture, NE Honshu, Japan, on the Hei River and Miyako Bay. It is an important fishing port with large timber and chemical industries.
Miyako 

a city and port in Japan on northeastern Honshu, Iwate Prefecture. Population, 60,000 (1970). The city is a fishing port and the center of the fishing industry. Miyako also has chemical, metallurgical, woodworking, food-processing, and condiment plants.

5-magnitude earthquake hit at 9:18 am (0018 GMT) at a depth of 30 kilometres (18 miles) in the ocean off Miyako Island, the Japanese Meteorological Agency said.
