Also called "SMS spam," it is the sending of unsolicited ads to cellphones and pagers via text messaging. Bluetooth phones provide another door for receiving spam (see Bluesnarfing).

Although a 900 number is known as a pay-per-call area code in the U.S., foreign countries use different number prefixes. For example, the Bahamas 809 area code can be used as a pay-per-call number.
