Activities: Camping, hunting, fishing, boating, hiking, mountain biking, wild horse viewing, horseback riding, hang gliding, rock hounding, cross-country and downhill skiing, sledding, snowmobiling, snowshoeing. Special Features: Mountains, pine forests and meadows, lakes, streams, rugged canyons, wetlands, lava beds, and high desert plateaus. Points of interest include Happy Camp and Sugar Hill Lookouts with panoramic views and exhibits of Forest Service history; stone circles, rock piles, and petroglyphs revealing 10,000 years of Native American occupation; tree carvings (arborglyphs) made by Basque shepherds during the late 19th and early 20th centuries; abandoned homesteads of early settlers.
