The characteristic of a system that has been divided into smaller subsystems which interact with each other.

modularity [‚mäj·ə′lar·əd·ē]
(computer science)
The property of functional flexibility built into a computer system by assembling discrete units which can be easily joined to or arranged with other parts or units.
