Mohawk River

River, east-central New York, U.S. The Hudson River's largest tributary, it flows 148 mi (238 km) south and east to join the Hudson at Waterford, north of Troy. The Mohawk Valley (Mohawk Trail) was the historic route of westbound pioneers through the Appalachian Mountains into the Great Lakes region. The Five Nations of the Iroquois Confederacy lived in the valley, which was a major battleground during the French and Indian War and the American Revolution.
