Mohenjo-Daro
an excavated city in SE Pakistan, southwest of Sukkur near the River Indus: flourished during the third millennium bc

Mohenjo-Daro 

(translated from Sindhi as “the mound of the dead”), the ruins of one of the principal centers of the Harappa civilization. Discovered in 1922 by the Indian archaeologist R. Banerji, Mohenjo-Daro was subsequently excavated by J. Marshall, E. Mackay, and R. Wheeler. Its study has made it possible to identify the principal stages and characteristic features of the Harappa civilization.

The highlight of the exhibition is a 60- feet sculpture, composed of innumerable tiny figurines -- reminiscent of the famous bronze Dancing Girl from Mohenjodaro of the Harappa Civilisation dating back to more than 4,000 years ago -- and seven bigger ones.
Mohenjodaro is easily reachable via a short airplane trip and is a wonder to see well planned streets and houses with a proper sewage system.
Mohenjodaro is easily reachable by jet whereas the finely engraved, sand stone graves of Chaukhandi are just an hour''s journey by car from the heart of Karachi.
