Gamburd, Moisei Efimovich
Born 1904 in Kishinev; died there July 14, 1954. Soviet painter. Gamburd studied at the Academy of Arts in Brussels (1925-30). Beginning in 1930 he worked in Moldavia. He painted genre pictures of peasant life and national history, as well as portraits of Moldavian workers. Among his works were The Mowers (1935), Motherhood (1939), and The Family (1940)—none of whose location is known. Gamburd also painted Be Damned! (1945), Likbez (1947), The Spinner (1947), The Underground Press of the Newspaper “lskra” in Kishinev (1948), and Portrait of Brigade Leader M.
