Mokrousov, Aleksei Vasil’evich 

Born June 9 (21), 1887, in Ponyri, now Zolotukhino Raion, Kursk Oblast; died Oct. 28, 1959, in Simferopol’. A leader of the partisan movement in the Crimea during the Civil War of 1918–20 and the Great Patriotic War (1941–45); colonel. Member of the Communist Party from 1928. Son of a peasant.

Mokrousov worked as a miner. He participated in the Revolution of 1905–07 in the Donbas. He became a sailor in the Baltic Fleet in 1908. In 1912 he was arrested; he escaped abroad and joined the labor movement in Sweden, Denmark, Great Britain, and Argentina. In 1917, Mokrousov was a member of the Sevastopol’ soviet. He participated in the October Armed Uprising in Petrograd and then commanded detachments of sailors in the fight for Soviet power in the Crimea, in the Ukraine, and on the Don. He joined the Red Army in 1918, became a brigade commander, and took over the command of the Crimean Insurgent Army in July 1920. Mokrousov held responsible managerial and administrative posts from 1921. In 1937 he fought as a volunteer in the antifascist struggle in Spain, where he was a military adviser on the Aragón front. He was a commander of the partisan movement in the Crimea in 1941–42. Mokrousov was in the Soviet Army from 1943 to 1946 and was then involved in management work.

Mokrousov was awarded the Order of Lenin, the Order of the Red Banner, the Order of the Patriotic War First Class, the Order of the Red Banner of Labor, and various medals.
