Moll, Joseph 

Born in October 1812 in Cologne; died in June 1849 in Murg. Active in the German and international workers’ movement. Comrade-in-arms of K. Marx and F. En-gels. Watchmaker by trade.

Moll was one of the leaders of the League of the Just and a founder of the London German Workers’ Educational Society and the society of Fraternal Democrats. An advocate of Utopian socialism, he adopted scientific socialism under the influence of Marx and Engels in the late 1840. In 1847 he joined the Communist League and became a member of its central committee. Moll was active in the Revolution of 1848–49 in Germany. He was chairman of the Cologne Workers’ Union from July to September 1848 and a member of the Rhine District Committee of Democrats. He fought in a detachment with Engels during the Baden-Pfalz Uprising of 1849 and was fatally wounded on June 29.
