Molok, Aleksandr Ivanovich 

Born Oct. 12 (24), 1898, in St. Petersburg. Soviet historian. Awarded the degree of doctor of historical sciences in 1940, member of the CPSU since 1941.

Molok graduated from the University of Petrograd in 1922. During 1924–51 he taught at Leningrad State University, the A. I. Herzen Pedagogical Institute, and other higher educational institutions of Leningrad; he was appointed a professor in 1938. From 1930 to 1936 he was a senior research fellow of the Leningrad Division of the Institute of History of the Communist Academy and from 1936 to 1951 a senior research fellow of the Leningrad Division of the Institute of History of the Academy of Sciences of the USSR. From 1951 to 1960, after transfer to Moscow, he was a senior research fellow of the Institute of History of the Academy of Sciences of the USSR.

After 1956, Molok was a professor at the Lenin Moscow State Pedagogical Institute. His major works are on the history of the revolutionary and workers’ movement in 19th-century France. Molok is an editor and author of basic works on the history of the Paris Commune of 1871.
