Mönchengladbach 

a city in the Federal Republic of Germany, in North Rhine-Westphalia, west of the Rhine. Population, 151,200 (1971). Mönchengladbach is a large center for the textile, clothing, and knitwear industries; there is also machine-tool and boiler construction, textile-machinery construction, and production of rolling equipment and reinforcement. There is an engineering school of the textile industry.
