Monmouth Battlefield State Park Location: On Route 23 in Monmouth County, 12 miles east of New Jersey Turnpike Exit 8. Facilities: Historic site, visitor center, picnic tables, playground, interpretive center, trails. Activities: Picnicking, hiking, horseback riding, cross-country skiing, sledding, special deer hunting. Special Features: One of the largest battles of the American Revolution took place in the fields and forests that now make up Monmouth Battlefield State Park. The park preserves a rural 18th-century landscape of hilly farmland and hedgerows that encompasses miles of hiking and horseback riding trails, picnic areas, and a restored Revolutionary War farmhouse.
