A type of construction, as of a rocket body, in which all or most of the stresses are carried by the skin.
A type of aircraft structure in which the skin takes almost all the loads. A monocoque structure is a thin-walled tube or shell that may have rings, bulkheads, or formers installed within and held together by stringers. In some definitions, there is a minimum structure inside the skin.
