Monroe, Elizabeth

Monroe, Elizabeth (b. Kortright) (1768–1830) First Lady; born in New York City. She married James Monroe in 1786. She was familiar with European society because of Monroe's diplomatic tours. She was considered too aloof and aristocratic during her period as first lady.
