Monroe State Forest Location: In the northern Berkshires of western Massachusetts, on Tilda Hill Road in Monroes, off MA 2. Facilities: Trails. Activities: Wilderness camping, fishing, hiking, horseback riding, hunting (with restrictions), cross-country skiing, snowmobiling. Special Features: This wild and rugged state forest features deep valleys, steep mountains, and tall trees. From the summit of Spruce Mountain or Raycroft Lookout hikers can view magnificent panoramas of the surrounding Hoosac and Green Mountains and Deerfield River. Dunbar Brook drops 700 feet in two miles, over huge moss-covered boulders that form waterfalls, rapids, and pools.
